So much for working from your laptop at the beach, bar or totally different state.
Microsoft Teams is rolling out a new “employee location” feature that automatically detects where you’re working from so yes, even if you’re logged in working from your kitchen, your boss will know you’re not if you’re not.
The feature uses Wi-Fi and network data to flag whether you’re onsite, remote, or hybrid, giving managers a real-time snapshot of team presence.
Rolling out December 2025, it’s optional for now but it’s already got remote workers talking. Microsoft says it’s meant to “improve collaboration,” but critics say it blurs the line between teamwork and tracking.
