New York City Police Department said two young children were stabbed and killed in an apartment in the Bronx and now their mother has been charged with their deaths.
Dimone Fleming, 22, has been charged with killing her 11-month-old son Octavius Fleming-Canada and 3-year-old Dashawn Fleming, WNBC reported.
Both boys were found with multiple stab wounds on Saturday and were pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police said they were called Saturday evening about an emotionally disturbed woman acting erratically but she was not violent, WCBS reported.
WNBC reported that she had been trying to burn items in her apartment, which was located in a family shelter that was run by New York’s Department of Social Services.
Fleming was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
A family friend told police that Fleming’s children were with their father, and not at the apartment, The New York Times reported.
However, a second call to 911 reported an assault inside an apartment and that was when police found the boys, who had first been discovered by their father, Columbus Canada, in a bathtub, WCBS reported. The boys were submerged and under a towel or a sheet, the Times reported.
Police have not said why they didn’t find the boys during their first visit to the apartment, the newspaper reported.
Fleming is charged with the murder of her sons, WNBC reported.
