Real estate agent Sarah Walker, 40, was killed back in July 2006, according to The Associated Press. Walker was found with over 30 stab wounds in a model home in McKinney, Texas.

Prosecutors said Kosoul Chanthakoummane, 41, had entered the model home, beat Walker with a plant stand and eventually stabbed her, according to the AP. He also stole a ring and a Rolex watch but both items were never found. Chanthakoummane was out on parole for aggravated kidnapping and robbery in North Carolina at the time Walker was killed.

According to the AP, investigators found DNA evidence in the model house and under Walker’s fingernails that belonged to Chanthakoummane. Chanthakoummane did say he was in the model home but said he only went inside for a drink of water.

Chanthakoummane’s attorneys asked the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to delay his execution by challenging the DNA evidence, stating that new DNA testing could explain why his blood ended up under Walker’s fingernails with no direct contact. However, the appeals court denied the request, said the AP.

According to the AP, on Monday, the Texas Board of Pardons also denied Chanthakoummane a 120-day commutation of his death penalty sentence for a lesser penalty.

If Chanthakoummane is executed, the AP said he would become the second inmate to be put to death in 2022 in Texas which would be the ninth execution in 2022 in the United States.
