Doorbell camera catches moment when South Florida woman gives birth

MARGATE, Fla. — A doorbell camera captured the moment when a South Florida woman gave birth, steps away from the front door of a birthing center.

Susan Anderson and her husband made the short trip from their Coral Springs home to the birthing center Thursday, but the baby was impatient. Anderson gave birth in the parking lot, WPLG reported.

“During the car ride to the birth center, I turned to my husband, and I was like, ‘I need to push!” Anderson told the television station.

The Ring camera shows Sandra Lobaina, a midwife at the Natural Birthworks Birth Center, and Anderson’s husband, Joseph Anderson, standing next to the woman in the parking lot as she delivered her second child, Julia Anderson, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

“My first daughter was a normal length, I would say, about two hours of pushing. I thought this one might be faster but I definitely didn’t think it would be like this,” Susan Anderson told the newspaper. “I didn’t expect anything like it.”

Lobaina was ready when the Andersons arrived, with a room prepped and her gloves on. However, she did not expect to make the delivery outside. Lobaina helped in the delivery, catching the baby as she dropped through the side of Susan Anderson’s shorts.

“Her husband and I were thinking about picking her up before the baby came and taking her inside, or maybe pulling her shorts off,” Lobaina told the Sun-Sentinel. “But if we had done that, the baby probably would have come out in the air or flopped down. Really, the only thing to do was to pull the shorts to the side.”

After delivering her baby, the second one at the birthing center, Susan Anderson clutched baby Julia and walked inside.

“We have beautiful tubs to help them,” Gelena Hinkley, a midwife, told WSVN. “We do like aromatherapy, like everything natural to support that type. She didn’t get to use any of it, but she did the first time around.”

The moment was nerve-wracking, but the Andersons handled it well.

“I always refer to my support team, and I think that if I hadn’t had our older daughter with them, if I didn’t already have that relationship, I would have been much more panicky,” Susan Anderson told the Sun-Sentinel. “But I kind of already knew the movements, so I was more calm than a new mother would have been.”
