The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies were called to Precision Auto Repair on Sugarloaf Key after an argument escalated. Deputies said a customer at the repair shop was upset that he had been charged a fee, even though the mechanic had been unable to make the repairs.

Investigators said the mechanic, identified as Roy Carson, aggressively approached the customer, prompting the customer’s 79-year-old mother to intervene, WPLG reported. Deputies said that Carson then lunged towards the victim’s mother and bumped her with his chest.

Deputies said Carson then got into his car and drove aggressively towards both victims before getting out of the vehicle with a machete.

The victim then showed a gun, prompting Carson to stop, WPLG reported.

Carson faces multiple charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and is scheduled to appear in court on September 8, according to online jail records.
