MANSFIELD, Conn. — A Connecticut man is accused of abandoning a newborn on the hood of a parked vehicle in March, authorities said.
Jorge R. Grados, 41, of Hartford, was arrested Tuesday and charged with intentional cruelty to persons and risk of injury to a child, WVIT-TV and CT Insider reported.
On March 23, a woman in Mansfield called 911 and told police a man put a premature infant on the hood of her parked car and left the scene. The boy was wrapped in a towel when he was found, WVIT reported.

The woman was bird-watching in Mansfield when she saw a black SUV pull up in front of her vehicle, CT Insider reported. She told police that she saw a man, later identified as Grados, carrying a blue, bundled towel toward her vehicle while shouting, “I’m sorry,” the news organization reported.
The infant required lifesaving measures, and Connecticut State Police estimated the newborn’s weight at 2 pounds and had been delivered within 48 hours of its abandonment, WFSB-TV reported. Hospital staff estimated the boy was born between 28 and 30 weeks premature, according to the television station.

Detectives obtained several samples of DNA evidence after meeting with Grados on Sept. 23, according to CT Insider. Grados was also identified as a suspect through cellphone data, WVIT reported.
Grados was arraigned on Tuesday in the state Superior Court in Rockville, according to CT Insider. He was released on a promise to appear after bail was initially set at $100,000, according to court records.
