McDonald’s employees locked themselves in building after nearby shooting on the Southside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office swarmed a McDonald’s parking lot on the Southside after a reported shooting Wednesday evening.

Police say they found the victim in the restaurant parking lot but are still investigating exactly where the shooting took place.

The victim had multiple, but non-life-threatening, gunshot wounds to his leg and was transported to nearby hospital.

The incident happened around 8:20 p.m. and the McDonald’s lobby was closed when the incident happened, around 8:20 p.m., but JSO said there were customers in the drive-thru.

An employee’s grandmother, who wanted remain anonymous, spoke with Action News Jax and said, “She called me hysterical and said someone got shot and I was in Kohl’s. That was it. They wouldn’t let them out. She was hysterical and I was crying and flew here.”

Employees locked themselves in the building and were later questioned by police for about an hour.

Police said there is no threat to the public and it is believed to be an isolated incident.

Currently, there is no suspect information and according to JSO the investigation is still active.
