JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — COVID-19 cases are spiking in school districts across the country and here in our area.
Yesterday, the White House vowed to provide school districts with COVID tests in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
More than a thousand students and staff at DCPS have COVID-19, according to Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene.
According to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard, the following four schools have the highest cumulative cases so far for the 2021-2022 school year:
Atlantic Coast High: 137
Mandarin High: 128
Baldwin Middle-Senior High: 119
Edward White High: 104
Aunterial Wynn has two daughters in DCPS schools. The infection rate is making her anxious.
“Very, very anxious, because my daughter comes home and she tells me several more students tested positive,” she said.
Wynn says she’s on board with the idea of COVID tests for students.
“I would like to see that happen,” she said, adding, “I‘m surprised it hasn’t happened honestly.”
While Wynn aims to keep her girls in class, there have been days she didn’t feel safe sending them to school.
“We have dodged a bullet a few times. There were a couple of instances where I didn’t send my kids to school and someone turned up positive in one of their classes,” she explained.
Wynn would like mask mandates for students to return, as well as remote learning options.
