Wing-flation is Real: Super Bowl Party Costs in 2025

February has arrived, and that means its time to throw down at the Kansas City Chiefs annual last game of the year...aka The Super Bowl.

Team fandoms aside, some of us will be brave enough to host parties and get-togethers around the game - but how much is this spectacle of sport (and commercials) going to cost us?

According to a few new reports, it’s a mixed bag...

Wells Fargo, in their infinite wisdom, has crunched the numbers on Super Bowl party staples, and apparently throwing a bash for 10 people will set you back about $139. That’s only 10 cents more than last year, which, let’s be honest, is basically free in this economy!

But...here’s where things get weird. If you want to save some dough, you’re going to have to embrace the healthy stuff. Wells Fargo’s report says the biggest price drops are on things like broccoli, celery, and cauliflower. If you were planning on serving a crudités platter that could feed a rabbit army, you’re in luck! Potato chips, frozen shrimp, frozen pizza, tortilla chips, salsa and nacho cheese are also all down in price! Savings all around!!!

Before you start celebrating with a celery stick, here’s the catch: the good stuff is going to cost you.

Chicken wings? Up 7%. Avocados for that holy guacamole? Up a whopping 12%, and maybe more in the coming days. Cherry tomatoes are also up 12%. Red bell peppers, baby carrots, beer, wine, and onion dip are all going to cost you more. It’s like the universe is conspiring to make our Super Bowl parties both expensive and healthy. Thanks, universe.

And then there’s the gambling. A separate report from LendingTree says the average Super Bowl viewer (which, let’s face it, is basically everyone) plans to spend $142 this year, a 22% increase from last year. However, a big chunk of that is betting on the game. If you can resist the urge to put your life savings on the coin toss, you might actually save some money...but where is the fun in that?

Look, your Super Bowl party can cost as much or as little as you want it to. You can go all out with the wings and the seven-layer dip, or you can embrace the budget-friendly world of broccoli and cauliflower. Just remember, no matter what you serve, the real winner of the Super Bowl is probably going to be your credit card company!
