A survey of 2,000 Americans found that shopping while hungry causes people to overspend by an average of $26 per grocery trip.

76% reported abandoning their budgets when shopping on an empty stomach

60% said they make less healthy choices in that state

The worst time to shop? 4–5:59 p.m., when hunger from the day peaks

Popular impulse buys include bananas, grapes and apples.
