As REO Speedwagon begins the slow fade into the after-party that is retirement, it reminds me that we’ve seen a lot of acts/bands call it quits over the last few years!
Usually time, health, and family reasons are often the culprit, but irreconcilable differences between lead singer Kevin Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall seem to be the onus this time around.
However, REO Speedwagon would be the opening act if you made a festival lineup of all the bands who have called it quits in just the past 2 years:
Zoom out a few more years and it becomes a proverbial “who’s who” of bands we wish we could see just one more time!
- Judas Priest: 2021 (announced a farewell tour)
- KISS: 2021
- Genesis: 2022
- Foreigner: 2022 (announced a farewell tour)
- Ozzy Osbourne: 2022
- Peter Frampton: 2022
- Whitesnake: 2022 (announced a farewell tour)
- Kenny Loggins: 2023 (announced a farewell tour)
- REO Speedwagon: 2024
- Aerosmith: 2024
I get it though, often bands will play with our emotions announcing farewell tour, after farewell tour, after farewell tour - looking at you Lynyrd Skynyrd, Motley Crue, KISS, Elton John, and others!!!
But all of this is just to say, if you’ve got a shot to see a classic band touring through town, take it...or you may never get another chance!
