Disney is developing a fifth installment of its beloved Halloween movie franchise, bringing the magical world back to life nearly 20 years after the last film.

According to PEOPLE, the new movie is in early development for Disney Channel and Disney+, with writers Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn working on the script. The film will be based on characters created by Paul Bernbaum, who wrote the original 1998 movie.

While fans have plenty of reasons to get excited, Disney hasn’t revealed any plot details, an official title or a potential release date. Casting also remains a mystery, so it’s not yet known whether familiar faces from the original movies will return.

The franchise first enchanted audiences in 1998 with Halloweentown, which followed teenager Marnie Piper as she discovered she came from a family of witches. Alongside her grandmother, Aggie Cromwell, played by the late Debbie Reynolds, Marnie discovers a magical town filled with supernatural creatures and learns to embrace her powers.

The original movie was followed by three sequels: Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge in 2001, Halloweentown High in 2004 and Return to Halloweentown in 2006.

Clearly, the magic hasn’t worn off. Disney says the franchise has generated an estimated 160 million hours of global streaming on Disney+, and the original movie ranked among the platform’s 10 most-watched Halloween films in October 2025.

With the series remaining a Halloween favorite for longtime fans, a fifth movie could be the perfect opportunity to revisit the characters and introduce a new generation to Halloweentown.

For now, fans will have to wait for more details on the project. In the meantime, all four original Halloweentown movies are available to stream on Disney+.
